Detail

 Barium borate (BBO) is a nonlinear optical crystal with comprehensive excellent properties, belonging to the triclinic crystal system. Its density is 3.85 g/cm³, Mohs hardness is 4, melting point is 1095 ± 5℃, and the phase transition point is 925 ± 5℃. The thermal expansion coefficient is low, with a value of 4 × 10⁻⁶/K in the a-axis direction and 36 × 10⁻⁶/K in the c-axis direction; the thermal conductivity is 1.2 W/m/K perpendicular to the c-axis and 1.6 W/m/K parallel to the c-axis. It has high double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple frequency conversion efficiency, high damage threshold, wide temperature reception angle, and good optical uniformity.

It is widely used in the second, third, fourth, and fifth frequency doubling of lasers such as Nd:YAG, Nd:YLF, and Ti:Sapphire, as well as frequency doubling, tripling, and mixing in dye lasers, to obtain laser output of different wavelengths. It performs well in optical parametric amplifiers (OPA) and optical parametric oscillators (OPO), capable of generating tunable laser output covering a wide wavelength range from ultraviolet to infrared, and is used in spectroscopy research, laser radar and other fields.
